Korean War veteran Robert Pelno (right) of Star Lake shares a memory with (from left) Morris Reed of Russell, Lawrence Reed of Potsdam and Douglas Pilon of Chazy as they await the boarding of North Country Honor Flight One at Plattsburgh International Airport Saturday morning. The Reed brothers served in World War II, Morris in the Navy as a shipfitter on a destroyer in the Pacific Ocean during the occupation of Japan, and Lawrence in the Army as a telephone lineman on the Korean peninsula. Both Pelno and Pilon served as machinist mates in the Navy, Pelno on the destroyer John R. Craig patrolling the Strait of Formosa during the Korean War, and Pilon on an ammunition carrier in the waters off Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. The quartet joined 10 other veterans on the 19th North Country Honor Flight, an all-expenses-paid trip to the war memorials in Washington, D.C.
