Samantha Zalusky plays with Maddy at her grandmother's Plattsburgh home Thursday afternoon. Zalusky was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. On Saturday April 23 their will be a spaghetti fundraiser dinner at the VFW Post 1466 in Plattsburgh. The benefit begins at 1 p.m. will include A deejay, live music, karaoke, and an auction.

Diana Betts, a cancer survivor and a medical lab technician at the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, knew the late Mary Lou Zaferakis, whose charity to others went beyond her creation of the Zaferakis Family Fund. When Betts's youngest son, Brian Mehan, was sick with cancer, Zaferakis anonymously gave him a $500 donation. "I loved her very much, and I miss her." Betts said.
