In spite of the snow, sleet and rain Sunday, about 25 citizens gathered at the Essex County Cemetery near Wadhams to place wreaths at the monuments to those who have died. "In this season when friends and family traditionally get together, many of us want to remember those military service veterans who have passed on and can no longer be with us physically," Elizabethtown-Lewis American Legion Post Commander Newman Tryon said in his address to the crowd. Locally, more than $300 was raised to cover the cost of the wreaths. The brief ceremony closed with a prayer by acting chaplain Betty Light, followed by Kim Matthews playing "Amazing Grace." Egglefield Ford provided cider and other refreshments at the dealership.
