Participants in the Great Strides fundraiser begin the 3-mile walk Sunday afternoon at Melissa L. Penfield Park in Plattsburgh. Sponsored by the Northeastern New York Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the annual walk drew about 150 people to help raise money to find a cure for the life-threatening genetic disease, which affects about 30,000 children and adults in the United States. After the walk, members enjoyed food, music and raffle drawings. It's not quite the last day of school, but about 50 children show the same enthusiasm at the start of the quarter-mile fun run Saturday outside the Plattsburgh Recreation Dept. It was the fifth and final race in the free series aimed at promoting child health awareness.
