Sen. Charles Schumer reviews progress on the Conference Center at Lake Placid with Olympic Regional Development Authority CEO and President Ted Blazer. Work on the Conference Center has progressed since the state-ordered halt due to budget concerns this spring. It will become the new home for the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, the Essex County tourism planning office. Amid funding shortfalls, ORDA venues could benefit from new legislation in the U.S. Travel Regional Investment Partnership Act (TRIP Act). Announced Friday by Schumer, the measure is slated to create a grant program for infrastructure and cooperative tourism destination projects. Funding of up to $1 million would support public-private tourism programs that incite economic activity and create jobs.(Staff Photo/Kim Smith Dedam)
